Blitz Kids Are Joining Taking Back Sunday Tour

It has happened! Blitz Kids are going to be joining Taking Back Sunday on their December headlining tour.

The band will be swapping main support with Marmozets throughout the tour.

Joe (Frontman) Says:

“It’s an honour to be asked to tour alongside a band who basically soundtracked the majority of my teenage years. Taking Back Sunday have been a huge influence on us as musicians and Louder Now will always be one of my favourite albums. It’s the perfect end to what has been an incredible year for our band. We also get to hang with our besties Marmozets which is going to be dangerous to say the least. Plus we’ve been writing some new material since our last headline tour so there could be a few surprises in the set!”

Dates:

7 December 2014 - Portsmouth Pyramids
8 December 2014 - Bristol O2 Academy
9 December 2014 - London Camden Roundhouse
11 December 2014 - Birmingham Institute
12 December 2014 - Manchester Ritz
13 December 2014 - Glasgow O2 ABC
14 December 2014 - Oxford O2 Academy

Alestorm Leeds!

What an amazing gig this was! So glad I was asked to go otherwise I would have missed an awesome night!

Alestorm hit Leeds University on October 25th with their Piratefest with support from Lagerstein, Red Rum and Raibow Dragon Eyes!

Each band had the crowd going mad. we had beer chugging, mosh pits and a lot of bad ass pirates, couldn't have asked for a better gig.

This was a new experience for me, I have never seen any of these bands before Friday night and I can tell you now I have massively been missing out! To me pirate rock is really similar to Irish rock, probably why I loved it so much, took me back home a little.

If you haven't seen any of these bands before I highly recommend that you do, I mean if they can make a newbie who haven't heard of any of them before love them I am sure they can win anyone over! Think I will have to get myself to another one of their gigs!

Sad News!

So... A little bit of bad news for this week. I found this out a while ago now but I have had to keep my mouth shut about it until the official announcement... The decision has been made by Black Nevada to kick Cameron Dunn out of the band. It is a massive kick in the teeth for the fans of the band.

Cameron is a close friend of mine so for this to happen is a total shock! Never in the world did I expect him to be the one to go. It really is sad as the band are like a little family.

There will be auditions for a new drummer at the Merry Monk this Sunday, in my eyes they wont find anyone even close to replacing Cameron, anyways, if you would like to audition then I will post the details below!

Sunday 2nd November 2014
The Merry Monk
The band have asked that you send them a message on Facebook to give you an allotted time to turn up. Good Luck to anyone trying out, just make sure you don't have a job, it could back fire into getting you kicked out...

Blink 182 Aim For Summer 2015 Album Release

So Blink 182 are going to start work on their seventh studio album, in the next couple of weeks they plan to start writing for the new album.

Tom DeLonge Says:
“I am hoping that we can get this thing out by summer, but we will see,” before adding, “We actually have our very first big writing session coming here in the next few weeks where we’ll get together and lay down our first tracks,”

Back in August Mark Hoppus said:
We are basically at the very beginning of the process. We were going to start recording at the beginning of this year, but there were some things happening in some of our personal lives that prevented us from getting in the studio, so now we are getting in the studio at the end of this year instead. We have the beginning of song ideas at this point, and we are really just excited to get into the studio and have an album out sooner rather than later.”

I really cannot wait for this album, really curious to see what the band have in store for us!

Enter Shikari are streaming their new single from their upcoming album, The Mindsweep.

Rou Reynolds says:

Life can often seem like a tumultuous onslaught of ups and downs; good and bad; euphoric and arduous. Our circumstances can change in a flicker of an eyelid. Sometimes it’s beneficial to take a step back from everything and appreciate the honour that we’re still alive.”

Corey Taylor Talks Depression & Suicide

Corey Taylor teamed up with You Rock Foundation making a video about suicide and depression.

Corey spoke about his own battles with depression as well as his attempted suicide, he added how he overcame his struggle with depression by using the power of music.

Corey Says:
“Nothing on this planet is worth going away for. Nothing on this planet is worth ending your life for, there’s always light at the end of the tunnel. There’s always a way out. It’s all temporary. Pain is temporary. Depression is temporary. You are stronger than you know. You can get through it.”

Below is the video he made speaking about depression and suicide:

Personally I have been through the struggle of depression, it is a hard thing to get out of, all you can think is how bad things currently are and you don't really think about how things may get better in the future, for me I channeled all of my emotion into dance, dance is what helped me just like music is what helped Corey Taylor.

I had a friend Deano Black who did commit suicide and still to this day I feel guilty about it because I feel like I could have done a lot more to help him, I always offer a helping hand to anyone who needs it.

Black Nevada, Merry Monk Gig Review

Following on from yesterday's post of the gigs details I bring the news!

As usual the band were amazing, minus a few hiccups such as strings snapping etc. Even with the issues they still provided an amazing performance. It will take a lot more to stop this lot!

Not as many people showed up as expected which is a real shame, everyone really missed out, such a good venue and the music was on top form.

For those of you who missed the gig, the band are playing again tomorrow for Durhams Oxjam, all the details can be found on Facebook! If not I will post them tomorrow (if I remember that is).

Hopefully you guys go to this, it's a band you shouldn't miss out on!

So last minute gig right here! Black Nevada are going to be playing at The Merry Monk in Bishop Auckland tonight due to cancellation.

The doors will be open from 7pm, really recommend you go to this gig, it takes place in an awesome venue which I always enjoy going to! Guaranteed a good night! Black Nevada are unreal as far as my opinion goes, but, I don't think you should just take my word for it, get yourselves there and see how amazing they are first hand!

All people attending that are under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult over the age of 25 (ID may be needed)!

This event is free entry, don't think that anymore needs to be said to get you there!

See everyone at 7pm!

Ozzy Osbourne On Justin Bieber

Well it has happened, Ozzy has finally been asked about Justin Bieber and lets say, as expected, we got a pretty awesome come back from him. Personally I do not like Justin Bieber for a lot of reasons... He is immature and un-talented! So... This is what Ozzy had to say:

''Award ceremonies are insane and confusing, you've got idiot journalists asking for advice on people like Justin Bieber! I was like you're asking me, for advice on Justin fucking Bieber! He threw an egg at a neighbours house and got nicked and you're asking Ozzy Osbourne, who bit the head off a bat?! Here's some advice: slap his arse and tell him to go to bed.''

Now I totally agree with Ozzy here, who in the right mind would ask the Prince of Darkness about Justin Bieber of all people, I think the answer they got was to be expected.. Think whoever this journalist is needs to do background checks before asking such silly questions...

Green Day, Nine Inch Nails And More Nominated For Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame!

Green Day, Nine Inch Nails, Lou Reed, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts and more are nominees for The Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame!

This is the first year both Green Day and Nine Inch Nails have been nominated, as musicians are only eligible 25 years after the release of their fist album.

List of nominees:

The Paul Butterfield Blues Band: American rock and roll collides with real South side Chicago blues.

Chic: A powerful combination of groove, soul and distinctly New York City studio smarts.

Green Day: Perennial punk adolescents, true to the basement and garage-rock band ethos.

Joan Jett & The Blackhearts: A potent mix of hard rock, glam, punk, metal and garage rock that's relevant in any era.

Kraftwerk: The foundation of all synthesiser-based rock and roll and electronic dance music.

The Mavelettes: Motown's first official Number One hit makers.

N.W.A: Massive influence, sonic power and boundary-smashing perspective.

Nine Inch Nails: The sounds and sights of transgressive art launched into the mainstream.

Lou Reed: Forty-plus years shaping the sound and the sense of contemporary music.

The Smiths: Four band mates, five ears, four albums and a vast sphere of influence.

The Spinners: One of the worlds most beloved R&B vocal groups.

Sting: A singular worldview reflected in a broad musical palette.

Stevie Ray Vaughan: The fiery show-stopper who influenced a generation of blues players.

War: A steamy mix of blues and soul, rock and R&B, built up on strong Afro-Latin foundation.

Bill Withers: A unique composer and vocalist, with songs that spoke for everyone.

Joel Peresman says:
''The group of nominees represent the myriad places where rock n roll converges with blues, electronic, dance, Motown, R&B, funk and other genres. Rock n Roll incorporates the style of so many different kinds of music. That's what makes this group of nominees and this art form so powerful and unique.''

Last year, Nirvana were inducted into the Hall Of Fame!

7 Artists Who Ripped Off Other People's Songs!

7. Radiohead
The Hollies successfully sued Radiohead for plagiarism. The hit 'Creep' was inspired by The Hollies single 'The Air That I Breathe'. Creep uses the same chord progression as in 'The Air That I Breathe' in it's verse, as well as a melody bridge following the second chorus. Radiohead now split's royalties with Albert Hammond and Mike Hazelwood (writers of The Air That I Breathe).

6. Robin Thicke
According to Marvin Gaye, Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines ripped off his song 'Got To Give It Up'. Robin sued Marvin for invalid copyright claim. After listening to both of the songs, I cant see the similarity.

5. Coldplay
Joe Satriani sued Coldplay for copyright infringement. He claimed that Coldplay's 'Viva La Vida' includes substantial original portions of his instrumental song 'If I Could Fly'. Coldplay denied the allegations, they argued that similarities were entirely coincidental. The California Court agreed with the British Rock Band and dismissed the case.

4. Bush
Bush's his song 'Glycerine' is said to be a knock off of U2's 'With Or Without You'. It has the exact same chord progression. The songs definitely sound similar.

3. Vanilla Ice
His hit 'Ice Ice Baby' sampled the bassline from Queens hit 'Under Pressure' without paying them or giving them proper song writing credit.

2. Katy Perry
Katy Perry's Grammy-nominated song 'Roar' received a lot of attention for it's similarities to Sara Bareilles 'Brace. Sara is totally fine with the two songs having similar melodies.

1. Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' faced a lot of criticism for being similar to Madonna's 'Express Yourself'. Gaga says any of similarities are totally unintentional.

The XCERTS Unveil New Single, Pop Song

The single is taken from the third full-length - the follow-up to 2010's Scatterbrain, it will be released November 3rd through Raygun Music. The album, titles There Is Only You, was produced by Dave Eringa and long-term friend Paul steel. You can pre-order the album HERE!

Murray McLead says:

''Lyrically the song is about falling in love with someone and being so wholeheartedly terrified about the situation that you practically go into self-sabotage mode. If you like me you are an 'over-thinker', especially when it comes to something like falling in love, you almost convince yourself the relationship is doomed before it has even begun and you end up looking at a near perfect situation very negatively, which is just batshit crazy. A personal fear that I'm sure many folks can relate to.''

Bloodstock 2015 Announce More Bands

More bands have been announced for Bloodstock Festival 2015.

Following the news that Within Temptation, Opeth, Isahn, Cannibal Corpse and Sepultura will be playing the huge metal weekender, even more bands have been revealed for Cotton Parks Bloodstock Festival.

Death DTA will be joining the line-up, as well as Cali mob Dark Angel and East Coast thrashers Nuclear Assault.

''In 2015, it will be 30 years since Nuclear Assault solidified our line-up and started making a name for ourselves in the metal/crossover scene.'' Nuclear Assault say. ''To commemorate this, the band will write and record another album and play some shows for a Final Assault. The live front will be of a limited nature due to the reality of people in the band having careers that they can't just walk away from for the time needed to go tour the world like we did in the 80's. Nevertheless, we will try to do whatever we can, especially in the summer to get out there and thrash for everyone again. Progress on writing will not go quickly due to a couple of facts; we are geographically challenged, so can't just jam once a week like we used to, and we want to make sure that this album is really killer so we can go out with a big bang.''

First Two Bands On Kerrang! Tour 2015 Revealed!

It has been revealed that the amazing Don Bronco will be headlining at the Kerrang! Tour 2015 with support from We Are The In Crowd!

Man Launches Kickstarter Campaign To Ban Nickelback From London!

A man has launched a campaign to ban Nickelback from performing in London again.

Craig Mandell set up 'Don't let Nickel Back' recently.

His Kickstarter reads:

''Following the recent crowd-funding of Foo Fighters gig in Richmond, Virginia that did not exist, the Foo Fighters agreed to play the gig - subsequently travelling to Richmond and performing for thousands of adoring fans who helped make it happen.

In a similar vein, we are attempting to ensure that Canadian 'rockers' Nickelback do not come to London, England to play a gig. With your help, we can ensure the band do not schedule any gigs here, do not attempt to come here - not even phone here.

Just imagine. thousands - perhaps tens of thousands of music lovers - all not witnessing an exclusive concert by Nickelback in London. It will be glorious. Legendary. Dare we say, game changing?''

Personally I find this person very selfish... Not only to the fact that he will be taking away the opportunity for Nickelback fans to see the band live but also taking away the bands opportunity to play an amazing venue in an amazing area, which they have worked their asses off to be able to play places like London... If this guy doesn't like the band fair enough because personally I am not a big fan myself. That doesn't mean I would take the opportunity for their fans to see them, it just means I wont pay to go and see them, not like they are going to be harming anyone else...

What's your opinion? Comment Below!

10 Songs With Lyrics You Didn't Realise Were Naughty!

10. Poker Face By Lady Gaga
Suspect Lyrics:
''I want to tell you that I love you/Kiss or hug you/Cause I'm bluffin' with my muffin/I'm not lying I'm just stunnin' with my love-glue-gunnin'.''

The 2008 song put Lady Gaga on the musical map! If you stop to think about the 'Suspect Lyrics' and think carefully, ''muffin'' is almost certainly a euphemism for the private female organ! The queen of pop admitted that the word is a coy nod to the female vulva and the lyric as a whole is a metaphor for annilingus in 2009 Rolling Stones article.

9. Blister In The Sun By Violent Femmes
Suspect Lyrics:
''Body and beats, I stain my sheets, I don't even know why''

The 1982 alternative rock lyrics aren't that opaque once read carefully. Wet dreams can be frequently alluded and this might be a clever way of doing it.

8. Glow By Alien Ant Farm
Suspect Lyrics:
''I'll be the switch she turns on/She'll be mine too, I get on/I'll be the fuse that she blows/And even the lights out we'll glo-o-o-o-o-ow''

Well he 2003 song suggests that this band can be almost romantic! The idea, two people. together can create light and magic seems to be behind the chorus of the song. Although that maybe because your eyes speed by the rather suggestive lyrics that the singer is getting his 'fuse blown'. Couple that with the lyrics about someone getting turned on and the naughtiness is clear!

7. Honey By Mariah Carey
Suspect Lyrics:
''Now I'm strung out on you darlin'/Don't you see every night and day/I can't hardly wait for another taste of honey.''

Mariah released the song in 1997 to re-define her career. Some say this song is in reference to her failed marriage. The lyrics get a bit raunchy during the chorus when she asks for more 'honey' and compares it to a drug. Couple this with 'it's like honey really washes over me/You know sugar never ever was so sweet/And I'm dying for ya, cryin' for ya, I adore ya,' and you've got your love making song.

6. Sugar We're Going Down By Fall Out Boy
Suspect Lyrics:
''Oh don't mind me I'm watching you two from the closet/Wishing to be the friction in your jeans/Isn't it messed up how I'm just dying to be him.''

This was the fist song from the rock band that broke into the top 10 of Billboard top 100. This was/is a catchy song that easily gets stuck in your head. If you take a closer look at the songs lyrics, the singer is a voyeur, spying on an intimate moment between  the object of his desire and her beau. Not only is he witness to be he girls willing partner! A song about a peeping Tom?

5. Get Down By Backstreet Boys
Suspect Lyrics:
''Get down, get down/And move it all around/Get down, get down/And move it all around.''

Also from rapper Smooth T in the song:
''All the girls/Get on your knees/Tryin' to scream/Or touch me please''

Listening to the chorus the first time seems less suggestive of a sexual encounter and more asking the listener to dance and lose themselves to the music. If you take the innocent chorus and couple it with 'bang, bang, bang, here we come, here we slam/It's the Fun Factory with BSB's/Y'all you guys, get on your knees tryin' to scream or touch me please/Backstreet Boys, are you with it? AJ, hit it/Come on, girl, and get down/Smack it up, flip it and move it all around.' and suddenly the overt fellatio reference is crystal clear, though perhaps with a title like 'Get Down', we should have been prepared for something not-so-innocent. Quite raunchy for the quintet to which millions of pre-teen and teenage girls flocked.

4. I Want You By Savage Garden
Suspect Lyrics:
''Any time I need to see your face/I just close my eyes and I am taken to a place/Where your crystal mind and magenta feelings take up shelter/In the base of my spine, sweet like chica cherry cola.''

This song was fast and catchy, even if you weren't sure what cherry-cola had to do with anything. The singer seems to be romantically remembering   crush and how just the memory of her takes him to a happy place. Look at the lyrics again. The memory of someone the singer sexually loved causes closed eyes and ends with cola - a sticky sweaty substance. The song is laced with sexual overtones - specifically wet dreams and masturbation that you probably didn't catch as a kid. Almost makes you cringe thinking about how you probably sang along to the song out in the car or next to your parents!

3. Wannabe By Spice Girls
Suspect Lyrics:
''If you wanna be my lover, you gotta get with my friends/Make it last forever/Friendship never ends.'

Often teen girls would flock to the girl band and would pick out which Spice Girl they would be if they had the choice. I know I did. The song was almost annoyingly catchy, even with it's ludicrous made up words like 'zigazig-ha'. The main chorus seems to advocate not just sex but cheating with your lover's friends in order to make them feel good because 'friendship lasts forever'.

2. Longview By Green Day
Suspect Lyrics:
''So, bite my lip and close my eyes/Take me away to paradise/I'm so damn bored, I'm going blind/And loneliness has to suffice/Bite my lip and close my eyes/I'm slipping away to paradise/Some say, quit or I'll go blind/But it's just a myth!''

The hidden meaning for this song might be more openly shown in this song. When asked Billie Joe Armstrong said the song helped put his band on the map, the song was about bordem and smoking dope, which is true until you begin to unpack the actual chorus. A popular cultural myth is that masturbation causes blindness, here we have our singer with his eyes closed, rejecting the myth in order to relieve... Bordem.

1. Genie In A Bottle By Christina Aguilera
Suspect Lyrics:
''My body is saying let's go/But my heart is saying no/If you wanna be with me, baby there's a price to pay/I'm a genie in a bottle, you gotta rub me the right way/If you wanna be with me, I can make your wish come true/You gotta make a big impression, I gotta like what you do.''

As soon as this song was released it was gobbled up by teenage girls, selling around 7 million copies worldwide.

The metaphor of a genie in a bottle and being rubbed is almost cute upon your first listen. However, with her body apparently ready and willing and her desire to be rubbed and well... yeah... you get the point!
