Green Day, Nine Inch Nails, Lou Reed, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts and more are nominees for The Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame!
This is the first year both Green Day and Nine Inch Nails have been nominated, as musicians are only eligible 25 years after the release of their fist album.
List of nominees:
The Paul Butterfield Blues Band: American rock and roll collides with real South side Chicago blues.
Chic: A powerful combination of groove, soul and distinctly New York City studio smarts.
Green Day: Perennial punk adolescents, true to the basement and garage-rock band ethos.
Joan Jett & The Blackhearts: A potent mix of hard rock, glam, punk, metal and garage rock that's relevant in any era.
Kraftwerk: The foundation of all synthesiser-based rock and roll and electronic dance music.
The Mavelettes: Motown's first official Number One hit makers.
N.W.A: Massive influence, sonic power and boundary-smashing perspective.
Nine Inch Nails: The sounds and sights of transgressive art launched into the mainstream.
Lou Reed: Forty-plus years shaping the sound and the sense of contemporary music.
The Smiths: Four band mates, five ears, four albums and a vast sphere of influence.
The Spinners: One of the worlds most beloved R&B vocal groups.
Sting: A singular worldview reflected in a broad musical palette.
Stevie Ray Vaughan: The fiery show-stopper who influenced a generation of blues players.
War: A steamy mix of blues and soul, rock and R&B, built up on strong Afro-Latin foundation.
Bill Withers: A unique composer and vocalist, with songs that spoke for everyone.
Joel Peresman says:
''The group of nominees represent the myriad places where rock n roll converges with blues, electronic, dance, Motown, R&B, funk and other genres. Rock n Roll incorporates the style of so many different kinds of music. That's what makes this group of nominees and this art form so powerful and unique.''
Last year, Nirvana were inducted into the Hall Of Fame!
